KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple might sell fewer Apple Watch units this year than it did in 2015. The analyst says that the lack of “killer” applications, insufficient battery life, and the heavy reliance on the iPhone are the key reason behind this.
Due to this, Kuo has cut his estimated Apple Watch shipments by 15-25% percent to 8.5-9 million units, down from 10.1-10.5 million units in 2015. The analyst also noted that the Apple Watch has failed to make any significant impact on the sales of Fitbit wearables.
Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 2 alongside the new iPhones at its ‘See You on 7th’ media event. While the new Apple Watch looks exactly like its predecessor, it comes with a faster dual-core S1 chip, built-in GPS chip, and a brighter OLED display. The waterproofing capabilities of the smartwatch were also upgraded to make it ”swim-proof.” The watch comes with a larger battery as well, but it does not lead to a notable improvement in battery life due to the inclusion of a brighter display and dedicated GPS chip. Apple also updated the Series 1 Apple Watch to include its faster dual-core S1 chip on it.
Do you see yourself buying an Apple Watch in the near future?
