If you thought that Daydream View virtual reality headgear that Google announced yesterday seems cool, you are in for a pleasant surprise. According to the terms and conditions for the Pixel phone sales in the US, you will get a promo code for the VR headset with each preorder on the Google Store or from the Pixel-exclusive carrier Verizon.
It will be emailed to you within four weeks from the shipment of your Pixel phone of choice, and you have to use it on the Google Store afterwards to get a Daydream View by the end of the year. Of course, the offer is available while supplies last, the code is non-transferable, and can’t be exchanged for cash or other stuff that Google sells there.
Still, Google is taking a page from Samsung’s book, which popularized its Gear VR headset immensely by offering it for free with the top-shelf Galaxies this year. That’s a great way to get the VR experience in the hands of consumers who would otherwise be reluctant to shell out $69 for the View contraption, and once they are hooked, the Daydream ‘experiences’ platform could become their go-to place for all the virtual reality content they might need in the future.
