Nothing can please more a Samsung fan than a major software update for its smartphone, right? Jokes aside, US Cellular carrier has just announced that a new update for the Galaxy Note 4 is now available for download.
The old Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is not available for purchase at US Cellular anymore, but if you own one you should be happy that the carrier still supports it with software update. The update will bump the phone’s OS to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which isn’t bad at all for a 2-year old device.
Although Google has already launched Android 7.0 Nougat for several weeks now, not many smartphones have been upgraded to the new OS. In fact, just the Nexus lineup received the new upgrade, so Marshmallow is still the most often used OS version on flagship smartphones these days.
Anyway, Galaxy Note 4 owners who purchased their phones via US Cellular should check for the update by heading to Settings / About device / Software update. If the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow shows up on your phone, then you can tap Update now to upgrade.
Make sure that your phone’s battery is at least 50% charger and that the Galaxy Note 4 is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. There are a lot of changes included in the update, so it might take more than 15 minutes to upgrade to Marshmallow.
You’ll be getting a redesigned App Drawer, better battery life thanks to the new Doze mode, as well as greater control over app permissions. Many other new features and stability improvements will be implemented as well, along with bug fixes.
