Just the other day, we told you to expect three new versions of the Apple iPad Pro for 2017. Powering each of the new slates will be the Apple A10X SoC. Traditionally, the chip inside the current year’s iPad is an enhanced version of the chip inside the latest iPhone. Apple designates this the “X” version of the chip.
That means the new iPad units will be driven by the A10X chipset. And already we can tell you that this SoC is a beast. On Geekbench, the A10X tallied 4236 on the single-core test, and 6588 on the multi-core test. That compares to scores of 3490 (single-core) and 5580 (multi-core) for the A10 chipset. The latter is currently used on the Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus. The Apple A9X, which is employed by the Apple iPad Pro, and the Apple iPad Pro 9.7-inch model, scored 3010 and a 4990 for the single-core and multi-core tests respectively.
The three new iPad Pro models due next spring are rumored to include include an updated version of the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a new version of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro carrying a larger 10.1-inch screen, and a new mini version of the iPad Pro.
